A key A-road running through Wiltshire is set to close during the refurbishment of a pedestrian crossing and bus stop.

Wiltshire Council will be renovating the zebra crossing, traffic signals, bus stop and shelter, and surrounding footways on the A4 London Road in Box.

During this project, the busy route through the village, linking Wiltshire and Bath, is scheduled to close for four nights, between the hours of 7pm and 6am.

The original closure order had suggested these works would begin on July 8 and continue until July 12.

But the council’s roadworks map is now warning drivers that the closure will be in place from the evening of July 22 until the morning of July 26.

During the closures, the route will be blocked off to drivers from around 50 metres northeast of Bulls Lane and the post office, to near Toast Coffee House.

The closure won’t be the only traffic management scheme likely to cause drivers delays in the area this July.

Multi-way traffic lights will be temporarily installed on the A4, between Box and Shockerwick, while Openreach carries out works in the area.

These roadworks are scheduled to be in place between 9.30am on July 3 and 2.30pm on July 11.
