The following cases were heard at magistrates courts in Swindon and Salisbury.

CHIPPENHAM: On Thursday, June 6, a Chippenham man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced for assault and possession of a Class B drug.

The 54-year-old pleaded guilty to assault by beating and possessing an unknown quantity of cannabis.

He was slapped with a prison sentence of 12 weeks, suspended for 24 months, and a restraining order.

He must also carry out 80 hours of unpaid work and undergo alcohol treatment.

WESTBURY: On Monday, June 10, Paul Mahy, of Sycamore Grove, was sentenced for driving without a licence or insurance.

The 28-year-old pleaded guilty to driving a Ford S Max, at Borough Parade Car Park in Chippenham, on October 14 last year.

He was fined a total of £200 and his driving record was endorsed with six penalty points.

DEVIZES: On Monday, June 10, Dragon Recycling Ltd, of Orchid View in Shaftesbury, was sentenced for failing to give information relating to the driver of a vehicle, believed to be guilty of an offence.

The firm pleaded guilty to the offence after failing to provide Wiltshire Police with information about a driver’s identity after it was requested by police at London Road, Devizes, on December 1 last year.

The company was fined £80 and ordered to pay £90 in costs, and a surcharge of £32.

WESTBURY: On Monday, June 10, Giles Myhill, of Clover Grass Court, was sentenced for common assault and criminal damage.

The 58-year-old pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman, on the A350 Bumpers Farm in Chippenham, on November 21 last year.

He also pleaded guilty to damaging the same victim’s driver’s side wing mirror, on the same date and in the same location, causing damage of an unknown value.

Myhill was ordered to pay £200 in compensation and a fine of £162.

TROWBRIDGE: On Tuesday, June 11, a teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced for riding a moped on a footpath.

The 17-year-old pleaded guilty to riding a Piaggio NRG scooter on the footpath at Bradford Road, Trowbridge, on November 30 last year.

He also pleaded guilty to driving the vehicle without insurance or the correct licence, and admitted that he failed to stop when ordered to by a police constable.

The youth was disqualified from driving for six months, slapped with six penalty points, and put under a youth referral period of three months.

TROWBRIDGE: On Tuesday, June 11, a teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced for permitting the previous offender to use a motor vehicle without insurance or a licence.

The 17-year-old pleaded guilty to allowing another boy to drive a Piaggio NRG scooter at the Meridian Business Park in North Bradley, on November 30 last year.

He was fined £100 and his driving record was endorsed with six penalty points.

STAVERTON: On Tuesday, June 11, Tony Hewlett, of Blackthorn Way, was sentenced for burglary of a business and several other offences.

The 52-year-old pleaded guilty to entering Dunks Specialist Model Centre, at Church Walk in Trowbridge, as a trespasser and stealing radio-controlled cars and boats worth around £1,125 on May 7.

He also pleaded guilty to driving on The Slipway in Trowbridge, on September 25 last year, while disqualified from driving.

During this incident, Hewlett also did not have insurance and had more Benzoylecgonine in his blood than the permitted limit.

Finally, Hewlett pleaded guilty to failing to surrender to police or a court at the appointed time.

He was sentenced to a total of 22 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, and will be disqualified from driving for two years.
