Plans have been revealed for the partial conversion of a town centre building into flats.

An application has been submitted to Wiltshire Council to change the use of the first floor of the Savers store building in Chippenham Market Place.

This would see the creation of six self-contained apartments at the property, above the existing retail unit on the ground floor.

Armstong Architects, the firm that designed the plans, said the ground floor Savers shop would be unaffected.

The first floor of the building is currently designated for commercial use, and was employed as office space, but developers Market Place Holdings Limited have applied to change this.

Reports in the application suggest the scheme includes 14 habitable rooms split across six residential apartments.

A larger plan was rejected by the council in 2020 that would have seen the creation of 11 flats and a second floor extension.

If approved, the current proposal would see the creation of a lockable cycle storage space and an enclosed area for household bins.

The apartments would back onto the Borough Parade Car Park.

A public consultation is currently running on the development and Wiltshire Council is due to issue a decision by July 4.
