A Wiltshire McDonald’s branch has been given a new food hygiene rating following an inspection.

The fast food giant’s Bath Road branch in Chippenham was visited by officers from Wiltshire Council’s Food and Safety Team on Thursday, May 23.

Following an inspection of the venue, McDonald’s was awarded a rating of five-out-of-five.

The restaurant and takeaway was evaluated in three key categories.

This included the hygienic handling of food in the kitchen, the cleanliness and conditions of the facilities and building, and the management of food safety.

Officers found the cleanliness and condition of the venue was of a “good” standard.

Hygiene standards in the other two assessed areas were judged to be “very good”.

The new rating for Chippenham’s only current McDonald’s branch comes as plans progress for a second location in the town.

Planning applications submitted by the chain were recently approved for a Unit at Hathaway Retail Park on the other side of town.

At the time of writing, a separate proposal for the reconfiguration of the unit’s shopfront remained under consultation.

Reports included in this proposal say the plans are for a “new proposed McDonald’s restaurant” at the current Bensons for Beds store.

McDonald’s was approached for comment.
