Designs have been revealed for a planned bar set to open in a Wiltshire Market Place.

In April, Wiltshire Council approved a proposal to change the use of the former Waverley Cafe and Royal Ashoka restaurant building, in Chippenham Market Place, to a craft beer bar.

The venue will be opened by the owners of The Prince of Wales Micropub, which will continue trading on Station Hill, and looks set to be named The Waverly Bar.

In May, plans were lodged for the erection of signage at the front of the prominent building and have shown what the bar could look like once works are complete.

Planning permission is also being sought for the creation of an internal bar and seating areas, alongside some other alterations.

Both applications are currently undergoing a public consultation ahead of a decision by the council.

Artel31, the architectural firm tasked with putting the designs together, says the development will preserve the historic “ghost sign” painted on the wall.

It added: “The significant benefit of preserving the usage of the building and sympathetic nature of the changes sought means that this application will bring about significant public benefit.”

If approved, the proposed signage will be installed by established local signwriting business Knowles Signs.
