Large crowds descended on a Wiltshire town centre for an “electric” festival.

Visitors to the Chippenham Folk Festival, which took place from Friday May 24, until Monday, May 27, were treated to over 200 acts.

The four-day event was spread across the town with a variety of performances taking place at locations including The High Street, Island Park, and the Olympiad.

The annual festival is now in its 51st year and marketing director Richard Wells believes the event gets better every time.

He said: “We were watching the weather with trepidation, and we did have a five-minute hurricane on the Sunday.

“We were wallowing about in the mud by the final day, but it was great and the public really enjoyed it.

“The atmosphere was electric and the broad responses I got were that it gets better every year.”

Around 100 volunteers were involved in organising the event on the day, while 30 had been preparing for the weekend since last October.

Mr Wells hopes these organisers will be able to keep the folk festival going for another half-century.

He added: “It was a fantastic achievement, so we have to say a massive thank you to all our volunteers.

“We are determined to keep it going with the same atmosphere for at least another 51 years.”
