A mum of three from Malmesbury is finally achieving a lifelong dream of opening a high street shop for fashion lovers and new mums.
Ruby Blaken first launched her online preloved clothing business three years ago and said she always dreamed of bringing sustainable fashion to the high streets.
Now it's becoming a reality, as her shop Second Snuggle will open its doors in Malmesbury on Saturday, April 13, at 10am.
The shop will sit opposite the historic Malmesbury Abbey and specialise in preloved and sustainably clothing catering to newborns all the way up until sixteen-year-olds, as well as maternity.
But mum-of-three Ruby doesn't just want to offer fashion.
Her shop Second Snuggle will also offer a space for new mums to come and nurse their babies, change nappies, have a chat or just find some support.
Since launching Second Snuggle and The Preloved Company in 2021, Ruby has rescued more than 18,000 pieces of clothing from landfills and helped rehome clothes by opening a community wardrobe.
She was named among 100 female entrepreneurs in the #ialso100 campaign in 2023, which celebrates the achievements of women running businesses in the UK.
The exceptional mum and business owner has also been a Muddy Stiletto Award Finalist two years running and has won Theo Paphitis Small Business Sunday Award.
“I’ve seen lots of local businesses recently leave the high street and it’s so sad," said Ruby.
"I’ve always dreamt of opening my own physical shop but always considered it out of my grasp, as start-up costs can be staggering.
"When I heard about the Vibrant Wiltshire grant, I thought this could be my opportunity."
The Vibrant Wiltshire grant, which has provided Ruby with a helping hand to open her first shop is given out to small businesses by Wiltshire Council.
It aims to put empty high street stores back into use by supporting new businesses with grants of up to £10,000.
The council hope that these grants will put businesses back on the map, boost footfall, create new jobs and enhance the sustainability of businesses.
Second Snuggle will open from 10am to 3pm on Saturday, April 13, and will be offering a giveaway and opening day offers for a limited time only.
