A popular TV presenter and antiques expert uncovered a “rare find” during a valuation day in Wiltshire.
Former BBC and current Channel 5 star Paul Martin, best known for his role on shows like Flog It! and Antiques Road Trip, held a charity valuation day at Devizes Corn Exchange on Saturday, March 16.
During the day residents were able to bring in their heirlooms, antiques, and other items for a free valuation.
The highlight of the day came when Sally Margary brought in an autograph book with the signatures of several historical figures, including political activist and suffragette leader Emmeline Pankhurst.
“It’s a really rare find and an important part of our social history”, Paul said.
“The suffragettes were an amazing group of women who risked their own reputation, livelihoods and freedom to speak up for women’s rights.
“It is so exciting because you get to hold these things that are important documents in history, it’s very rare and lights up history.”
The autographs were valued at between £300 and £500 and will now go under the hammer on April 13.
Paul held the event alongside Devizes auctioneers Henry Aldridge & Son, for whom he is head of valuations.
The auction house will be donating all of its vendors’ commission from any sales to Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
