A Wiltshire charity has paid tribute to the mother and daughter duo keeping their store at “the forefront” of a town’s retail offering.
The Sue Ryder charity shop in Old Swan Yard, Devizes, has put its success down to the efforts of manager Hayley Norcliffe and her mum Sarah, who volunteers at the store three days a week.
30-year-old Hayley, from Cricklade, has been supervising the shop since August 2021 and says working alongside her mum has brought them closer together.
She added: “We still travel in together every day that she’s in, spend the day together and travel home together in the evening.
“It’s great having the opportunity to spend so much time together and I am so grateful for her hard work.
“Working so closely with Mum has brought us much closer together. I’m so lucky that I get to spend that much time with her, and I am truly grateful for her.”
Sarah had originally volunteered just a few hours a week, but this gradually increased until she became “part of the furniture.”
The 55-year-old has now become an agony aunt to staff and customers and is the store’s personal shopper.
She added: “I take it very seriously… volunteering gives me a purpose as well as allowing me to give something back to the local community.”
