Work has started on “extensive” alterations to a former Wiltshire Wilko building ahead of multiple new occupants moving in.
Developers The Harkalm Group began an internal strip out of the former Wilko store on Chippenham High Street before Christmas last year, after the retailer closed the branch in September.
Scaffolding has since been erected at the building, which has been split into three smaller units, as part of an “extensive programme of works” to the exterior of the property.
This will include the completion of shell works ahead of a new Tesco Express store opening in one of these new units.

Last month Tesco lodged design plans for several elements of this new shop.
Shell works will also be completed for the future tenant of unit two, where a new shop front is set to be installed on the corner of the High Street and the River Avon.
The Harkalm Group’s senior associate Charles Percival told this paper that at this stage no occupant has been confirmed for this property and the developers are still seeking interest.
Planning permission for the new shopfront was granted on February 21.
The ongoing work will also include either repairing or replacing the roof of the building.
The third unit, a vacant 6,490sq foot space, is currently on the market.
