Tesco has submitted plans for the conversion of an empty High Street unit into a new convenience store.
In January Tesco confirmed it would be closing its Emery Gate superstore in Chippenham and relocating to the High Street.
The retail chain secured a new store in the former Wilko building after it was split into three units by developers The Harkalm Group, which purchased the property when Wilko collapsed.
A new Tesco Express will open at this currently vacant unit and plans have been submitted to Wiltshire Council for design elements of the convenience store.
If approved, the proposal would see a new ATM with light and camera installed alongside an internally illuminated projecting sign over the windows, advertising the shop.
Tesco says the additions would support the unit’s “commercial viability.”
There are also plans for the installation of a new timber fence with an access gate to the rear of the building, as well as CO2 gas coolers and air conditioning units.
The Harkalm Group recently announced it would be carrying out works to the former Wilko store, providing Tesco with a shell that will allow them to fit it out once its proposal is approved.
One of the remaining units is currently on the market while plans have been lodged to install a new shopfront at the other.
