We’ve all heard of jobs involving ‘healing’ such as doctors and therapists, but there aren’t many who can say that they get paid to heal buildings.
But that’s exactly what three women in Wiltshire claim to be able to do.
Astarte Healing, based in Bratton, is a company that works with estate agents and homeowners to “clear negative energies and restore balance to troubled environments.”
The business claims to have healed everything from bedrooms to shops and once even a cargo ship, haunted by a woman who died years ago at sea.
Their website describes signs that you might have an 'unhealthy' home and might require healing. These include feeling uneasy on stepping through the door or in certain areas, failure to sell your home, feeling beset with bad luck or unexplained insomnia or anxiety.
Other signs include feeling unwell, having regular arguments in the house, unusual behavior from pets, objects being moved or going missing, plants failing to thrive, and having cold spots that never warm up.
The site explains a free energy check is carried out on the property to ascertain the extent of the problem and identify if any negative energies are present including geopathic stresses or psychic phenomena.
Then the team start by dousing to find out the 'vitality' of a property which goes on a scale from zero to 100 per cent.
Then through photos and floor plans the team carries out the dowsing using their remote healing skills until all the negative elements have been cleared.
They also give advice on the best furniture placements, colour schemes and use of plants and crystals to help maintain the new positive energies within the house or property.
The business, run by Caroline Wood, Jane Edwards and Eve Harris Martin, is perhaps one of the quirkiest in the county, but all three women say they came to the profession from relatively ‘normal’ jobs.
Jane, a former registered nurse, and Caroline, an interior architect and designer, have always had a passion for helping people and say they can now channel that as Reiki practitioners.
Reiki is a Japanese technique of healing built around the idea of an “unseen life force energy” that is all around us.
"I first discovered Reiki a few years ago when my mother was terminally ill with pancreatic cancer," explained Caroline.
"I had a lightbulb moment when I thought wouldn’t it be amazing if I could use the healing element of my work with the designing part, so I really started looking into it."
Eve, who comes from a corporate background, came to the business later, first as a client after she bought her first house and felt that it was spiritually unsound.
“We work from my garden studio in Bratton, which was formerly a slaughterhouse so I had to spend a lot of time clearing the negative energies from its 'bloody' past," said Caroline.
"I say to people the energy of a place is like wifi, you know it's there but you can’t see the actual energy communicating things."
"We then ask our intuition what’s going on here, whether is it spirit activity, geopathic stress, technology, etc," Caroline explained.
"Jane sketches out symbols she sees and each symbol deals with a different thing, like underground water sources, the past, and health problems."
The three women ask that the property owner leave the place during the healing and then they work remotely from Caroline's garden studio to 'heal' the property of bad energies.
“If we go back in time to when cathedrals were built, master builders would always douse to find the energy where the altar would be located. So it's actually a very old profession," said Caroline.
“There is definitely a global awakening of consciousness that is gathering momentum, where people are looking to a more holistic approach to problems.
"We hope in the future to hold workshops and be able to empower people to help themselves too."
