A mum claims she and her daughters were left “vomiting uncontrollably” after ordering a Filet-O-Fish and McNuggets from a Wiltshire McDonald’s.
Members of the family, who wished to remain anonymous, visited the McDonald’s branch on Bath Road in Chippenham on December 20 and then again on January 14.
They were left feeling sick with what they believe was “food poisoning” after both visits.
McDonalds says the branch, which boasts a five-out-of-five food hygiene rating, was in full working order and all procedures were followed on the days of the alleged incidents.
The anonymous customer claimed she and her daughters ate at the restaurant during the Christmas holidays, but several hours after eating their Filet-O-Fish and McNuggets, they began to feel “rough.”
She said: “This needs to be investigated, after eating the food I felt really rough and needed to lie down with a pounding headache.
“But then I was projectile vomiting everywhere, it came in waves and I couldn’t keep anything down for a day or two.
“It was the same with my oldest daughter and my little one was like a rag doll for almost a week.”
The experience has left the Chippenham resident reluctant to go back to the branch, although she added she has had no issues with the nearby Melksham location.
She added: “The last thing you want to do is go back somewhere where you felt ill.
“I wouldn’t take my children back to that branch again.”
She subsequently complained to the fast food giant, who apologised for the meal being “spoilt” and offered them a £5 voucher following an investigation into the matter.
Despite this, in their response to the complaint, McDonald’s emphasised their records showed the whole order was prepared as it should have been, with strict hygiene and food preparation policies followed by staff.
But the complainant was not satisfied by this response as she claims she has been contacted by others on social media who have experienced similar incidents after eating at the branch.
She reported the incident to Environmental Health officers at Wiltshire Council, who assured her that foodborne illnesses usually have a longer onset period while no other complaints had been received.
The restaurant was rated as “very good” in all categories during its most recent food hygiene rating in May 2022.
This inspection took into account the staff’s hygienic handling of food, the cleanliness and conditions of the facilities, and the management of food safety.
McDonald’s did not respond to this newspaper's request for comment.
