A cycle tour company is expanding to show Wiltshire’s beautiful countryside and historic landmarks by bike.
New Forest Cycling Tours began when tour guide and cyclist Steve Edmed decided to show off the UK’s beauty in an active way.
The popular tour company is now offering three new guided cycle rides through Wiltshire with a fully qualified mountain bike leader, taking customers through the best cultural and historic sites that Wiltshire has to offer.
“Wiltshire is a hidden gem, yet is home to some of the UK’s most iconic sites such as Stonehenge and Avebury,” explained Steve.
“Beyond this, there are some amazing places that often people haven’t explored on bike.
“I want to show my customers just how amazing the landscape is and to encourage visitors to experience the county in a green and sustainable way,” he added.
“I am very much looking forward to showcasing just how fantastic this county is with the launch of my new tours and would encourage anyone with two wheels who fancies giving it a try to book on.”
For those wanting to see Wiltshire on wheels, there are three routes to choose from.
‘The Historic Three: Salisbury, Sarum and Stonehenge’ is a 30-mile circular tour which offers riders exactly what it says on the tin.
Riders will follow a cycle tour guide around the outskirts of the medieval city of Salisbury, to the Iron Age hillfort of Old Sarum, across the Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and to the famous Stonehenge.
For a slightly shorter route, the ‘Ancient Ridgeway and Avebury Cycle Tour’ offers stunning views along the Ridgeway, the oldest trail in Europe.
Riders will bypass the Devil’s Den, a Neolithic Dolmen burial chamber, as well as Liddington Castle, a late Bronze Age hillfort, and Hackpen White Horse.
The third new Wiltshire trail is named ‘Green Man of Wiltshire and the Kennet and Avon Canal Tour’ and is a 27-mile loop around the rolling North Wessex Downs and through small picturesque villages, via the Kennet and Avon Canal.
After leaving the canal behind, customers will embark on the search for the Wiltshire Green Man, a replica of the Bamberg Green Man carved into the cut end of an oak tree branch.
“With almost half of Wiltshire dedicated to National Landscapes, cycling provides an unparalleled opportunity to explore the picturesque countryside,” said Fiona Errington, head of marketing at VisitWiltshire.
