A Wiltshire town’s former NHS headquarters is back on the market after being earmarked for housing.
The Southgate House office building, on Pans Lane in Devizes, was previously the home of the local Clinical Commissioning Group but has sat empty for a number of years after becoming surplus to requirements.
In November 2022, NHS Property Services, the freehold owner of the 3.5-acre site, announced plans to transform the building into 27 apartments and build 17 new homes on the surrounding grounds.
This came after “extensive marketing” of the property yielded no interest from commercial occupiers.
Now the site is up for sale for offers in the region of £2,500,000.
Despite a public consultation and pre-application submission to the council for 42 new homes, no plans have been submitted at the time of writing.
NHS Property Services suggested an outline planning application is due to be put forward in early 2024.
The property is described as a “residential-led development opportunity”, but Alder King Property Consultants added other uses may also be suitable.
The large office building, which sits in an extensively landscaped site, was constructed in the 1990s for the Wiltshire Regional Health Authority.
It was refurbished for continued healthcare use in 2013.
NHS Property Services previously said revenue generated from Southgate House would be reinvested into local healthcare services.
