Two of Wiltshire’s busiest roads have seen increased traffic after the start of a five-month road closure creating a “bottleneck”.
On Tuesday, January 2, the B4528 between Showell and Patterdown in Chippenham was closed to all motorists.
The road will remain shut until June 9 while Dave Lucey Ltd carries out the construction of a roundabout on the route, on behalf of Redcliffe Homes.
Long queues were spotted on the A4 Bath Road near the turning to Patterdown on Tuesday, as motorists were forced to remain on the main road, with the alternative route to the A350 now shut.
Traffic maps indicated heavy traffic on the A4 in the area again on Wednesday afternoon, with congestion stretching from Chequers Roundabout back towards Chippenham Community Hospital on Rowden Hill.
There was also some slow traffic on the A350 as a result of the “bottleneck”.
The road closure stretches between Holywell House and Showell House.
Wiltshire Council expects the works to be completed by early June, but this will be dependent on weather conditions.
The new roundabout will be located near Redcliffe’s large Rowden Park Garden Village development, which is being delivered in several phases.
