A man has been arrested after a vehicle was allegedly driven down the M4 at a "ridiculous" 180mph.
Images were circulated on social media which showed a driver clocking 180mph on the motorway after a car meet which reportedly took place in Chippenham on Boxing Day.
This sparked a police investigation and on Thursday, December 28, Road Policing Units arrested a man in his 30s, from Eastleaze in Swindon, on suspicion of dangerous driving.
He was taken to Gablecross station for questioning and remained in custody on the morning of Friday, December 29.
Sgt Ben Cox said: “It goes without saying that these kinds of speeds are absolutely ridiculous and this behaviour will not be tolerated.
“We will identify those involved and ensure they are put before the courts so that they can be held accountable for their actions.
“A number of members of the public contacted us who witnessed this behaviour on the M4 – if you have any information which could assist please get in touch.”
