A new High Street pet store is set to open in a Wiltshire town after the success of a former dog walker’s market stall.
Becky Lyons has been a market stall holder in Chippenham for three years after setting up her natural pet food and treat business, Pawesome Buddy Boxes.
But now the 38-year-old is ready to take the plunge into running her own bricks and mortar shop which she plans to open on the High Street, just yards from her former stall, on Saturday, October 28.
“I had the market stall for three years and I just thought that now is the time to go for it because there are no other independent pet shops in the town centre”, she said.
“It’s a bit of a gamble but I have confidence it will be a success story, my family has been so supportive all the way through and it’s all going well so far.
“I made the jump to go full time in January, I’ve been a dog lover all my life and I live and breathe it so the job is great because you get to meet people’s pets which is always quite fun.”
Pawesome Buddy Boxes provides natural treat boxes for both dogs and cats and Ms Lyons added that the food on offer is of a “high quality”.
She will also sell a selection of toys and accessories and has encouraged customers on Facebook to let her know what they would like her to stock.
The shop’s opening comes after weeks’ worth of refurbishment of the premises, which is located on the corner of the High Street and Borough Parade.
This has been carried out by Ms Lyons and her family and has seen her uncle build a number of shelves and units.
While Ms Lyons is from Cherhill, her business has found its home in Chippenham thanks to its popularity with local shoppers.
The former dog walker told this paper that the support of the Chippenham community has given her increased confidence the shop will find success.
She added: “Chippenham has really become the backbone of the business and people have really embraced it and supported me from the start.
“It just feels like the right place to put down roots and the shop has been really well received from both old and new customers in the area.
“Now I just have to hope we get plenty of feet and paws through the door.”
