A major town centre roadworks scheme is ahead of schedule with work due to move locations within the coming weeks.

The two-year £1 million Wessex Water improvement project began in Devizes on September 4 with the closure of the junction of Sheep Street, Maryport Street, Monday Market Street and Sidmouth Street.

Works have progressed well, according to the utilities firm, and are now ahead of schedule.

During this time there will be parking restrictions on the road, identified with no-parking cones, but the Sheep Street car park will remain open.

A Wessex Water spokesperson said: “The start of this essential £1 million investment to improve the supply of water in Devizes has progressed well in its early stages.

“We have written to customers and businesses to inform them of the progress, and this will continue throughout the various phases of the project. We thank them for their patience, co-operation and understanding and apologise for any inconvenience.’’

Access to Sheep Street will be maintained for residents and businesses.
