A major road through Wiltshire is set to shut for one week while repairs to unsatisfactory surfacing works are carried out.

The A350 will close between Lackham and Chequers Roundabouts, on the edge of Chippenham, from Monday, September 18, until Sunday, September 24, during the hours of 7pm to 6am.

Wiltshire Council warned that during this time “delays are likely” and drivers have been urged to seek alternative routes.

After the council revealed to this paper that they were awaiting a licence application from developers Bayliss Estates, it was confirmed that roadworks would commence on Monday.

The route will now close while Tercon carry out remedial works to address the issue.

In the meantime, motorists will be diverted through Showell and Patterdown onto the A4 Bath Road, where rolling road closures are due to end on September 14.

While the works are due to finish on September 24, the closure notice will have a maximum duration of 21 days in case of delays.

The council’s roadworks map also warned that it would not be possible to maintain an a through route for emergency vehicles.
