Planespotters were treated to the impressive sight of two B-2 stealth bombers soaring through the Wiltshire skies.
The Northrup Grumman B-2 Spirits were diverted to RAF Fairford on August 18, during a Global Power Mission, while on deployment in Europe.
The two planes, 'Spirit of Alaska' and 'Spirit of Ohio', are from the 509th Bomb Wing at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri and touched down at the local air base for a hot-pit refuel, which means they are refuelled while running.
Kieran Leigh Bregan was one of the locals lucky enough to see the manoeuvre as it happened, and he shared some pictures on the Swindon and Wiltshire Camera Club Facebook page.
He described it as 'awesome'.
Another person who got some great photos of the American planes in the air was Mike Coxhead.
RAF Fairford, famous for its annual Royal International Air Tattoo, became a new permanent base for the US Airforce in the UK last year.
The occasion was commemorated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on December 6 outside the base's building two, which will be the new headquarters of the U.S. Air Force’s sole combat support wing.
