Roadworks at a busy roundabout have been delayed for a second time despite a lane closure being in place on Tuesday.
Wiltshire Council had previously announced that a three-week improvement scheme would begin at the Malmesbury Roundabout, which links Chippenham to the M4 via the A350, in mid-July.
These works are intended to decrease confusion for motorists using the roundabout, after a spate of accidents in recent months, and will see the junction’s signage and road markings updated.
But the scheme, which has attracted support from town councillors, was pushed back to August 14 after additional improvements to crossing points were included.
A lane closure on the A350 approaching and on the roundabout, which caused slow traffic in the area, was put in place on Tuesday, August 15, and this appeared to signal the start of the project.
But the council have now confirmed the bulk of the work has been delayed again after highways teams required more information from their contractors.
A new date of Monday, August 21, has now been allotted for the start of the roadworks.
Traffic management measures will then be in place for three weeks at the junction while temporary signage is replaced, advance direction signals are updated, and new carriageway word markings are added.
