A main road in Wiltshire was blocked by emergency services after a two-vehicle crash at a controversial junction.

Police were called to a collision just after noon on Monday, August 14, at the Black Dog Crossroads on the A360, at the edge of West Lavington.

The occupants of both vehicles are believed to have avoided any serious injuries in the smash.

The main route, near Devizes, was blocked for some time while the recovery of the vehicles was carried out but has now been cleared.

This latest crash comes after calls from local campaigners to make changes to the junction, which many believe is unsafe.

In 2020 the crossroads was found to be the seventh most dangerous in the county and Wiltshire Council have committed to a £250,000 improvement scheme.

This would involve realigning the junction but has come under fire from road safety campaigner and Little Cheverell local Michael Maxwell.

Mr Maxwell previously assembled car parts collected from a crash on the road into a protest artwork called The Scream, which was removed from the junction in March.

After another crash in December, he said: “Do we have to wait for the next injury or fatality before Wiltshire Council lumber into action and finally accept their latest plan won’t work and install traffic lights instead?”
