A council-owned property in Devizes worth almost £1 million has been put on the market after becoming surplus to requirements.

Melbourne House, just off The Nursery in Devizes, had previously been used by Wiltshire Council as a children’s resource centre in the town.

But following a recent expansion and refurbishment of the Trowbridge children’s resource centre, which now provides increased family areas, the building has been deemed redundant for operational purposes.

As a result, the council are now seeking to dispose of the property, leading the local authority to list it on the market with estate agents Cobb Farr.

Gates have been placed at the top of the private driveway, preventing members of the public from accessing the building.

The Grade II listed Georgian building is available to buy with offers expected to be submitted in excess of £900,000.

The house itself boasts seven bedrooms across three floors while there is further accommodation in a two-storey annexe.

On the bottom floor of the building is a dry cellar and basement while a roofline observatory can be found on the top floor.

Potential buyers would also have access to a half an acre of garden containing a brick-built gazebo and ample parking space.
