A man was left struggling to walk after being repeatedly punched by a teenager riding an e-scooter in an unprovoked attack.

The victim, who is in his 50s, was heading towards Chippenham town centre along New Road, at around 5.30pm on May 9, when he was clipped on the shoulder by a teenage boy on an e-scooter.

He attempted to continue walking, but the boy then punched him in the head and launched an “violent, unprovoked assault”, said police.

The suspect continuously punched his victim, who tried to defend himself, causing multiple injuries to his face, ribs, arm and leg.

Police added the victim was left struggling to walk after the attack.

Members of the public intervened before the boy fled on his e-scooter, in the direction of Hathaway Retail Park.

Police have now launched an appeal to find the suspect, who is described as a black male teenager, around 5ft 10ins tall and of slim to medium build.

CCTV cameras captured images of a suspect police are searching for in connection to the assault.

He was pictured wearing a black hoody and black tracksuit bottoms.

Investigating officers have urged anyone with information about this incident to contact them.

PC Tim Montague said: “This was an unprovoked violent assault which left the victim struggling to walk. It happened on what is often a busy road during rush hour so it is likely there may have been witnesses.

“If you witnessed the incident, or if you are able to identify the person pictured, please get in touch.”
