MELKSHAM: A new DT workshop planned for Stonar School, near Melksham, has been approved.

The school at Coombe Lane, Atworth, which dates back to 1895 will extend its current Design and Technology Building.

Stonar is a day and boarding school for both boys and girls.

The plans said: “As both the DT workshop and the general teaching spaces across the school site are operating inefficiently, there is a demand to improve the existing school facilities.

“It is intended that this will enhance the school’s facilities through the provision of additional internal teaching floorspace and improve the general school environment.”

“Following a review of space requirements, Stonar School has identified an immediate need for additional teaching space for the new school year.

“The proposed works will provide a modest amount of new floorspace.

“The new single storey DT workshop will have a gross internal area of approximately 74m2.”

The plans add there will not be any impact on the listed building nearby.

CROCKERTON: A new holiday let has been approved in Crockerton.

The annexe at Foxholes house will be turned into a holiday let, however the conditions of approval require it will not be left for longer than 28 days.

The application says: “The annexe is a single storey building with a lounge, kitchen, a double bedroom and en suite shower room. There is a mezzanine level in the lounge/kitchen.

"The annexe cannot be directly accessed from Foxholes House although they are part of the same building and are adjoined.
"The annexe is not overlooked by neighbouring properties given that the grounds of Foxholes House are substantial and private; the annexe is located centrally and is surrounded by trees and shrubs."

TROWBRIDGE: Plans for a new double classroom block for a Trowbridge primary school have been approved.

Castle Mead Primary School has special educational needs children, and the school has been asked by the council to take on 15 more.

To cope with the increase, the school have had to build a block of two new classrooms.

A bin store, scooter parking shelter and two wooden sheds must be moved to make way for the new block.

The Head of Special School Transformation for Wiltshire Council added: “Learners with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) are considered a vulnerable group.

“They deserve the right to access a quality education provision, in an inclusive school environment, close to their family home.

“The local authority is satisfied that this application will help deliver a Wiltshire Council priority aim to build high quality, additional SEND capacity.”
