A husband and wife duo have opened two new stores in a shared town centre space after relocating from The Shambles.
Taylor’s Clearances, an antiques and collectibles shop run by Markus Taylor, and All About The Music, a record store owned by his wife Debz, recently opened in a single premises at Old Swan Yard, Devizes.
The pair split the building down the middle and will run their respective businesses from the shared space.
Both Mr and Mrs Taylor operated stalls in The Shambles market but decided to relocate into their own premises.
The couple said they were excited at the prospect of welcoming both new and old customers into the shops.
Mrs Taylor said: “I was quite chuffed to have the unit in The Shambles anyway and I made it my own quirky little space, but the shop just feels a little bit more professional and business-like.
“It was a swiftly executed decision, we thought ‘we need to do this’ and the shop came up, so it all moved really quickly.
“We just hope we can make the shop work and get some new customers… we just want to keep it as a nice, friendly atmosphere where people feel welcome to come in.
“A lot of my regular customers have come down and found me but I’m selling stuff to a lot of new faces which is really good.”
All About The Music will sell a variety of vinyl records, CDs, music DVDs and even cassette tapes.
The business is just a year old and was sparked by Mrs Taylor’s childhood love of music.
She added: “I’ve collected since I was 14, when I grew up my grandma had a stereogram and I spent most of my time playing records. It just burns its way into your soul.
“It came to a point where I’d been in employed jobs for quite a long time and I thought it was time to go out and do something for me.
“It was a no-brainer to be honest because I had grown up with music.”
Taylor’s Clearances has a longer history in Devizes, where Mr Taylor held a stall at The Shambles for around four years.
His business buys and sells a range of antiques and collectables.
The pair are also looking forward to working together at the new store.
Mrs Taylor added: “We’re just as much friends as we are a couple, and it will be easier because we can keep each other’s stores open if we need to nip off.”
