A pair of Wiltshire musicians who made their names gigging in local pubs opened their idol Ed Sheeran’s show in Berlin this week.
Luke Gittins, who went to Abbeyfield School in Chippenham, has been performing both covers and original material since he was just eight years old.
The 22-year-old has gigged at pubs throughout the county but hit the headlines when Ed invited him on stage to perform with him at the O2 arena in London.
Now Luke and his sidekick Ash Smith, the other half of the duo Burbank, have opened the star’s latest tour show in Berlin as his support act.
The pair played their latest track Room to No One in front of a 1,700 strong crowd.
Reflecting on the experience, Luke told the BBC: “I was terrified. It felt very real, and I was aware of every face in the crowd, it was surreal.
“Going back I was just buzzing, there were lots of hugs, lots of relief and we were just proud that we’d done it.”
Ash added: “It was an incredible experience, something I have always dreamed of doing and being involved in.
“I’m just really grateful that it even happened.”
Luke’s “whirlwind” experience began when he started covering hit singles by Ed and other artists within an hour of them being released.
These became so popular that when he uploaded his take on Bad Habits to YouTube it was noticed by Ed himself.
After creating another cover while queuing for the chart topper’s concert at the O2 last month, Luke caught the singer’s eye and was invited on stage to perform.
After his success in London, Luke received an email inviting him to support Ed in Berlin and jumped at the chance.
Luke is now set to return to his job teaching guitar to children but has vowed to continue making music and recently released a new song.
Taking to Facebook after the show, he said: “From a room to no one to a room to 1,700 people in Berlin. Thank you to Ed Sheeran for asking me to support you.
“To everyone in the audience, I am so lucky to have been a part of such a magical show and share the night with you. Thank you to the whole team - it was a pleasure to meet you.
“I am back home now and I promise you that I will work endlessly on new music.
“Berlin was a dream and I won’t let you down.”
