WILTSHIRE towns are to put on the Christmas sparkle by switching on their lights displays over the next two weeks.

Christmas lights will be switched on in Salisbury and all the big market towns in Wiltshire over the next two weeks.

Flicking the switch to turn on the Christmas lights and town decorations is a big event in many of our towns and villages.

It gives the opportunity for families to get together and enjoy the festive magic of seeing the sparkling lights come to life, lighting up the wintery night sky.

Trowbridge: Friday, November 18, from 4.3pm-7pm. Trowbridge Town Council is hosting its spectacular Christmas Lantern Parade again in 2022 and this year hopes the event bigger and brighter than before. Visitors will get to see hundreds of beautiful, colourful, handcrafted willow lanterns paraded through the town centre led by a lively and colourful samba band. There will be entertainment, music and food stalls in Fore Street from 4pm. The Lantern Parade itself will start at The Civic at 6pm, move through the town park and into the town centre where it will gather for the ‘switch-on ceremony’. The parade will then restart and move back to the park where there will be a short fireworks finale.

Marlborough: Friday, November 18, at 6.30pm. A Christmas Market will be held from 10am with street entertainment also taking place. Live music and performances from the Town Hall steps are also set to get residents into the festive spirit.

Salisbury: Friday, November 18, from 1pm-8pm in the Market Place. Salisbury City Council have organised a series of festive events in the city which begin on Friday November 18. The day marks the first day of the twinkling Christmas lights as well as the opening of Christmas on the Square and the Salisbury Christmas Trail. The evening of family-friendly festive fun in the Market Place will kick off from 1pm- 8pm and will feature reindeer, The Grinch, carol singers, Disco Dion, fair rides and other fantastic Christmas activities. The same day marks the opening of Christmas on the Square in front of the Guildhall which includes a destination bar with cosy firepits, a food area serving up festive treats and the magical Santa’s Grotto.

Bradford on Avon: Friday, November 25, 6pm, at Westbury Gardens, and accompanied by Christmas Carols. There will also be entertainment and activities for all, including music, amusements, food, a gift fair in St Margaret’s Hall, Santa’s grotto and the mistletoe trail. The event is sponsored by Cobb Farr estate agents.

Devizes: Friday and Saturday, November 25 and 26. Winter Festival with Christmas Lantern Parade and official Devizes Lights Switch On at 7pm on Friday in the Market Place.

Calne: Saturday, November 26, from 1pm-6pm. Christmas Lights switch-on at 5.30pm. Santa’s Grotto, indoor stalls, Punch & Judy, Light Up Angel Stiltwalkers, live music from Decibelles, Nativity Donkeys, Sass Circus Skills, and Lantern Parade departs at 4.45pm from the Bremhill View Community Centre.

Chippenham: Saturday, November 26, at 5pm, Market Place. Festivities begin at 10.30am and end at 5.30pm. There’s a Vintage Market, a regular Charter Market, a Snow Globe, and a main stage in the Market Place with live music and dance from the Dance Academy, NJ Dance, the Rock Choir and the Lyneham Military Wives Choir, plus an abseiling Santa down the front of Chippenham Museum.

Warminster: Saturday, November 26, kicks off from 5.45pm at Three Horseshoes Walk. Warminster's Christmas Light Switch on at the Civic Centre is set to include 30 stalls alongside live music and a Santa's grotto.

Swindon Old Town: Sunday, November 27. It all kicks off at Wood Street Swindon, between 12pm and 5pm. Join the people of Old Town at their annual Christmas Lights Switch On. The outdoor event celebrated Old Town businesses, achievements and local heroes. On the agenda is Santa's Grotto, a live stage show and children's activities. The Enchanted Gardens Light Trail is also back by popular demand in Victorian Gardens. The trail will be open daily, from December 2-31.

Corsham: Friday, December 2, at 6pm.The Christmas lights will be switched on to give a family-friendly start to the festivities. There will be a Christmas market, live music, fun and games, and fairground rides for younger children.

Malmesbury: Friday, December 2, from 6pm-9pm,Christmas Late Night shopping, opened by actor Jason Durr, of Casualty and Heartbeat, with the town’s mayor. Shops open late, Santa’s Grotto, festive fun, indoor and outdoor markets, food, crafts and more.

Royal Wootton Bassett: Friday, December 2, between 6pm and 8.30pm. Christmas Lights & Shopping Evening. The High Street event usually attracts thousands. You can expect, food vendors, fairground rides and stalls, Santa's grotto and entertainment, as well as late night shopping in the local shops.

Melksham: Saturday, December 3, at 5pm. Organised by Melksham Town Council and the Melksham Christmas Lights group and sponsored by Light Fantastic Event & Entertainment Lighting. This year, they are using an interactive digital Christmas tree instead of a traditional fir tree.

Westbury: Saturday, December 3. Westbury’s popular Christmas In Westbury event will take place in the Market Place and the High Street between 1pm-6pm. You can expect stalls for all your Christmas gifts, tasty food, Father Christmas, and the Christmas lights switch-on by the mayor and the winner of the mayor’s Christmas Card Design Competition.
