CHIPPENHAM MP Michelle Donelan, the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, is inviting her constituents to have their say on who should be the next Conservative Party leader and the country’s Prime Minister.
Following a temporary silence after the dramatic resignation of Prime Minister Liz Truss on Thursday, Miss Donelan has put together a survey asking residents in her parliamentary constituency for their views.
Miss Donelan said: “You will have seen that events have moved on somewhat since my last update, and clearly it has been a difficult few weeks for the country.
“I am running an online survey for you to have your say on who should be our next Prime Minister. Right now I believe that the most important thing is stabilising our economy and getting our nation through the hard times ahead, with a focus on supporting those in need.
“As you know Prime Minister Liz Truss made the decision to step aside this week because the government could not continue as it was. This now means another leadership election and our priority is to do it as quickly as possible.
“I am currently still deciding who to support, but I would also like to hear your thoughts and hear from as much of the constituency as possible. We need to select the individual who is in the best interests of our community, and our country, and I am keen to hear your thoughts on this.
“Once a new Prime Minister is in place, I know that we must work as hard as possible to restore stability, faith and move forward to deliver the manifesto upon which we were elected.
“This is certainly my focus for the future, alongside continuing to be a strong, local voice for our community, and building on the progress we have made since I first had the privilege of being elected as your Member of Parliament in 2015.
“As ever, if there is anything I can do to help, please do not hesitate to let me know. Or if you would like to speak to me at one of my upcoming surgeries about an issue you are experiencing, or about recent events, I would be very happy to book you in for an appointment. I hold these regularly across the constituency, so please do not hesitate to let me know.”
