A farm near Devizes is expanding its business by opening a farm shop on-site, and we’ve been given a sneak peek at what it all looks like.
The Piggery Farm Shop at West End farm in Bishops Cannings, which opened October 20, is currently a pop-up, with owners having ambitions to open a larger, more permanent shop in 2023.
The Naughton family has been renting the farm from the crown estate for the last 52 years.
The main business has traditionally been selling the meat from their pigs, but they also have sheep and chickens on the farm.
Last year, they received recognition for their commitment to looking after animals and were also given the RSPCA award for excellence in education.
Signs at the farm point you in the right direction so that no one misses out on having a look around.
From the outside, the shop presents a rustic wooden hut, piquing people’s curiosity with only one entrance.
Although worked into a small space, there is plenty to choose from inside the pop-up, which has a cosy, autumnal feel once you step inside.
It’s all made complete with outdoor seating nearby, so people can take in Wiltshire’s glorious countryside after popping into the mysterious shop for their farm favourites.
You might even make a four-legged friend or two.
The shop has been in the pipeline for a while now, with owners noticing that visitors always enjoy connecting with them and finding out more about the work they do on the farm.
Cameron Naughton, who co-runs the business, said: “We also grow the crops that we feed the animals, and we are hoping that our farm shop will not only showcase our own farm's production but also from close neighbours as well.
“Milk, cheese, beef, vegetables and oil seed rape oil for cooking are all sourced within a few miles of our farm.
“We are looking forward to the opportunity of meeting old friends and making new friends when we open.
“We hope that it will become a valuable resource to our community, offering high-quality, locally sourced products at a reasonable price.
“I also hope it will enable us to continue sharing with people about where food comes from and eating seasonally.
“Assuming this is a successful venture, we hope to open a bigger shop next year.”
