A whisky business with a difference in Wiltshire has just been given a seal of approval with a special award.
Beeble Buzz Swarm, founded by Matt and Nicola, developed the niche idea of mixing honey in with alcoholic spirits, and has been listed as one of the winners of the Great Taste Awards 2022.
They get their honey from hives harvested between Malmesbury and Marlborough, and the business now also operates in a London office.
It was born out of Nicola's determination to stop honey wastage. After discovering that it was difficult to avoid wasting honey stuck to the frame of hives, they decided to soak it into whisky and haven’t looked back since.
They have now expanded the business, selling honey rum and honey vodka and are responsible for the existence of one hundred and thirty hives around Wiltshire, which amounts to almost eight million bees in total.
It will be the third year running that the business, which sells Caribbean warm with Wiltshire honey, has been one of the winners, and it comes just after they made it onto national TV earlier this year.
They appeared on the hit live magazine show, This Morning, back in June when the rum was used in part of the ITV show’s ‘Ultimate Father’s Day Gift Guide’.
Holly Willoughby exclaimed, when tasting the drink: “Oh, it’s really honey!
“I actually really like that.
“That’s really nice and almost feels like a medicinal.”
She then added: “It says whisky liqueur which I think is why I like it.”
Matt said: “It was great to hear we’d won the award again.
“Although it’s the third year we’ve been one of the winners you never expect these things.
“It’s been an amazing experience since starting the business so we’re just hoping to keep up the momentum.”
Reflecting on their year so far, Matt also noted that seeing their product appear on live TV was a complete surprise.
“It was just a normal day in the office with not much going on and we started seeing all these orders coming in- and we were like, where are they coming from?
“We actually ended up ringing one of the customers and asking them why they’d made an order to find out what was going on and they said it was because they’d seen us on TV- we had actually approached This Morning before but this was very unexpected.”
