Customers were asked to evacuate Boots in Devizes today (April 1) after a man suddenly died at the chemist in The Brittox.

Five police cars, two ambulances and the Wiltshire air ambulance were sent to assist but despite the efforts of Boots staff and first responders, the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident happened at around noon and the store was closed for the rest of the day.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: “We were called by the ambulance service shortly before midday today following the sudden death of a man in Devizes town centre. There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.”

A Boots spokesman said: “We can confirm that a very sad incident happened in our Devizes store this morning.

"Our pharmacy team were on hand to support and provide first aid until the paramedics arrived, and our store will remain closed for the rest of the day.

"Our thoughts are very much with the patient’s family at this time.

“Our team form close relationships with their patients in the local community, and this incident involved a patient who was a regular and well known among our team members.

"Our store will reopen tomorrow morning.”
