Smiles and laughter were the order of the day when Borough Lands charity laid on the Fringe February.

It was song and dance along the High Street in Chippenham as the town played host to a dozen entertainment acts at the weekend.

Making it fun in the town  were the Disco Litter Queens who danced their way around to a funky beat picking up litter in a lunch time slot and again mid-afternoon.

Laura and Mahri explained they wanted to make picking up litter fun.

Laura said: “Too embarrassed to tidy up in public? We were out to make it fun”.

Another act were the fashion police who brought laughter to shoppers all along the Town’s High Street.

Ralph Garbett and Lauren Gent were on operation glitz and glam dancing through the town in a hop skip and a jump catwalk. Lauren said: “We are set on bringing smiles to shoppers with our way-out act.”

And bring smiles to shoppers they did. Alice Smart followed them along the High Street with a broad grin.

She said: “They were great fun - a real laugh they made my day .”

Hitting the high notes was a local saxophonist , song writer John Martin, who premiered a museum jukebox piece in three sets during the day.

Chippenham Morris, who have appeared in the Agatha Raisin Mysteries, did a 30-minute slot near the Buttercross with the highlight being a Morris Dance to commemorate the return of the now famous building.

The Buttercross that was discovered in Lacock was re-erected in the top end of the High Street by the Town’s Civic Society in 1995, paid for by donations led by the Chippenham Borough Lands Charity.

Not to be outdone, their act was followed by the Chippenham Rock Choir, who have appeared in more than 400 towns and communities across the UK. And an addition to the 60-strong vocals were two singers making it easier to those with a hearing impairment by sign language the classic pop songs.

Chippenham Fringe February was celebrating their third year with community arts events from spoken word to comedy, music and dance performances along with improvised show acts taking place over the three-day weekend.
