WILTSHIRE Council will go out to tender on its £15m highways contract.

At the latest cabinet meeting it was determined that the council would go out to tender for new contracts before the running deal expires in 2023.

Cabinet member for transport, Mark McLelland said that while the current deal works well – there are lessons to be learned.

One councillor asked if this process will give the council a contract it would be happy with.

The view of Cllr McLelland is that there are a number of companies that meet the objectives – and the goal is to get as many interested in working with Wiltshire as possible.

Options also considered how the future provision of the service will provide carbon reduction in line with the council’s carbon neutrality commitment by 2030.

The results of the tender process will be reported at a future cabinet meeting.
