CABINET has agreed to sell off four assets including two former primary schools.

At the latest Wiltshire Council cabinet meeting (November 30), it was decided that four council-owned sites and pieces of land were surplus and it would look to sell them off.

These sites include former Upavon and Kilmington primary schools, a sewage treatment site and land north of Bitham Park Road, Westbury.

Selling off assets is just one way that the local authority raises capital and supports its medium term financial plan (MTFP) which in turn supports the council’s business plan.

Once assets are declared as surplus they will be determined by the council’s specialist team to get the best financial return for the local authority.

The report said cash from the sale of assets would go back into communities.

The cabinet report said: “The receipt of capital from the sale of assets is used to support the capital programme of investment in the communities of Wiltshire.

“Examples of the types of investment made and programmed to be made are provided in the council’s budget but they range from investment in better roads, waste collection and recycling, extra care homes, health and wellbeing centres and initiatives to provide better and more efficient customer access to council services.”

Cllr Gordon King, who represents Westbury East said that the neighbourhood planning team were considering creating a community development company.
