AN antique dealer is celebrating the release of new James Bond film No Time To Die by offering everyone the chance to own a rare piece of 007 memorabilia worth a whopping £175,000.
Jon White – who runs Old Bank Antiques in Royal Wootton Bassett – is raffling off a rare 2kg Bond-themed gold coin in a move which will also celebrate the first anniversary of his new venture The Britannia Coin Company.
The coin is the first of only seven made by the Royal Mint to celebrate James Bond.
It cost £147,950 at time of purchase and its value has already risen to around £175,000 due to its scarcity. It is already purchased and is being held securely at a secret location.
There are a maximum of 50,000 £5 raffle tickets on offer and a donation to charity of 10 per cent (to a maximum of £25,000) will be made once the raffle is over. The charity which will receive the donation will be chosen in due course.
“Like all our crazy ideas, this was something that we dreamed up in the pub.” Jon said.
“This specific idea was really an aligning of the planets. I’m a massive Bond fan... who isn’t?
"The Britannia coin company phone number ends in 007. Coincidentally the latest Bond film was in production and about to be launched, what could be more British than antiques, Bond, a company with Britannia in the name and doing a raffle.”
An experienced dealer in gold and precious metals, Jon made the decision to create a coin-specific company a year ago and used lockdown to bring his latest enterprise to life.
“Coins evoke such emotion with people,” Jon said.
“I’ve dealt with coins throughout my years in business and have gained a lot of knowledge. It was the perfect time to launch a coin specific company and what better way to do it than to raffle one of the rarest modern coins in the world.”
Tickets are already on sale and anyone can buy them online. The raffle will run until midnight on April 30, 2022 subject to maximum ticket sales. A winner will be chosen randomly on May 2 next year or earlier if all the tickets are sold.
“The draw will be live streamed on our Facebook page and overseen by an independent judge to ensure it’s fair and truly random,” said Jon.
“It really could be anyone anywhere in the world. The winning person will be invited to collect the coin from our premises, or have it securely shipped.”
