MEMBERS of the Wiltshire Against the Badger Cull campaign group say shoot supporters have tried to ‘intimidate’ them using a silver truck and a quad bike.
The moves followed their attempts to disrupt a badger cull taking place on farmland in the Castle Coombe area last week.
The group say they filmed two people riding illegally on public roads late at night using a quad bike with no registration number.
They claim the quad bike was being ridden in a manner designed to intimidate their protest patrollers.
They have reported the incident to Wiltshire Police, along with the registration number of a silver truck being driven aggressively in a field where badgers were being culled.
A member of the group, whom we know only as Dave, said: “Last week we spotted a silver truck being driven by a male wearing hunt staff attire in the field in which badgers were being culled.
“The silver truck was reported to police at the time as it was driving aggressively and following our badger patrol.
“Most recently the cullers seemed to have brought with them hunt ‘terrier boys’ who also drove aggressively and illegally on the road around the field to intimidate the patrollers whilst the shooters tried to kill badgers.”
The group say they also found the body of a dead dog fox in a field gateway at Castle Combe. They say this a tactic used by cullers designed to intimidate patrollers.
Dave said: “Patrollers have maintained patrols around this field and area since last week because it is being targeted. Last night patrol returned to find that a dead dog fox which had recently been shot by rifle had been left for them in the gateway of the field - the exact same spot in which all the previous incidents had occurred.”
The owner of the farmland said: “I know nothing about what you are referring to. I don’t know what this is all about. They ought to report it to the police.”
