WILTSHIRE Council will look into the charges made to mobile banks to make stops in town centres.

Sam Pearce-Kearney, who represents Calne South, said that banks are closing up and down the county because they were not viable.

In Calne, a mobile bank visits the town centre but Cllr Pearce-Kearney said the amount being charged for the mobile bank is making even that not viable to visit more frequently.

“Banks remain essential to so many of our residents,” he said. “So, I hope that cabinet would be able to look at this issue more closely for me.”

Leader of Wiltshire Council, Richard Clewer said he was happy to look into the issue, adding that it was, sadly, beyond the gift of the council to stop bank closures across the county.

“We very much need to help our high streets evolve into something different for the future,” he said.

“Things are changing and how we deal with that is going to be the critical element over the next two years and we do have plans in place.

“I will make sure that we look into the issue specifically – about charging for the stopping of the mobile bank.”
