Spring is in the air so dig out your trainers and join Alzheimer’s Support’s May Step Challenge to help people living with dementia in Wiltshire.

The Wiltshire charity is asking people to walk, run, jog, skip or dance their way through May.

It is all to raise vital funds to keep work going in communities across the county.

People can set their own personal challenge for the month, including walking a number of miles, counting steps or skipping every one of the 31 days. Or you can be more adventurous.

Why not climb Kilimanjaro up the stairs (or the equivalent height of another famous mountain), stage a danceathon, involve your family, friends and colleagues – or compete against them?

Babs Harris, Alzheimer’s Support CEO said: “Our May Step Challenge is a fun way to be active, as well as helping a charity which supports people living with dementia right here in Wiltshire.

“The money you raise, however you choose to raise it, will provide crucial support to families facing uncertain times.

"It will enable us to make home visits, keep our day clubs open and bring music, activities, advice and emotional support to people affected by dementia in these difficult times.

“Alzheimer’s Support spends 96p in every £1 on front-line services, so you know your donation will be well spent on the people that need it most.”

Alzheimer’s Support is an independent charity with its head office in Trowbridge, founded in 1990.

It operates throughout Wiltshire to provide flexible services for people living at home with all types of dementia and their family carers.

Its 150 staff and 160 volunteers deliver services including day care, support at home, carers’ groups, carer training, Music for the Mind singing groups, memory cafes, art groups, Movement for the Mind exercise groups, discussion groups, wildlife clubs and life story groups.

Dementia advisers give information and signpost to services that offer support to people with dementia and their families throughout the course of the illness.

There are more than 7,000 people living with dementia in the Wiltshire CCG area.

Of these 66 per cent have a diagnosis.
