Seventeen-year-old scooter rider Brendan Lynch from Ramsbury died after a car pulled out in front of him and then drove over him in the Oasis Leisure Centre car park in Swindon in November last year an inquest in Trowbridge heard today (Friday).
Brendan, an only child, ended up under a Vauxhall Vectra driven by Antionette Waterfall, of Swindon.
Despite the efforts of first aiders from the Oasis who rushed out to help, Brendan died.
The inquest heard that Brendan, an engineering student at North Star College, had ridden into the car park to meet friends. He wore his crash helmet with the strap loose so that it was possible, the inquest heard, to remove it with the strap done up.
Miss Waterfall had pulled up to drop off a friend and was about to turn right into a parking bay to turn round when the Vauxhall and Yamaha moped collided.
Police investigators found scuff marks on the car bonnet which showed, they said, that Brendan had been projected over the bonnet, falling in front of the car and going under it.
However he had no injuries to show that the wheel had passed over him.
A post mortem found he had died from cerebral concussion. The only other injury was a fractured hip.
Fire fighters lifted the car clear of Brendan and he was taken to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon where he was certified dead.
Deputy Coroner for Wiltshire Nigel Brookes recorded a verdict of accidental death.
Speaking outside the court Brendan's mother, Yasmin, stood with his step dad Jeremy Williams, and said: "We feel that this careless accident in a car park was a total waste of Brendan's life.
"All his dreams have been taken away and we are left with a life sentence."
Mrs Richards praised all of the emergency services and hospital staff for their efforts to save Brendan.
