A man was killed when his convertible sports car was in collision with a skip lorry near Kington Langley this evening.

The middle-aged man died instantly when his dark blue kit-style car was in collision with the lorry and span into a hedge on the B4122 near the Truck Stop close to junction 17 of the M4.

Police were called to the scene shortly after 4pm by the lorry driver who, despite being shaken, was uninjured in the crash.

The road, which is near the Wiltshire County Council recycling centre, remains closed tonight while collision investigators assess the wreckage and gather evidence. Police hope to re-open the road before 9pm.

Sgt Craig Hardy said: "A blue convertible sports car was travelling from junction 17 of the M4 along the B4112 towards Chippenham when it was in collision with a four-axle skip lorry. The driver of the convertible was killed instantly."

Family liason officers are now working to inform the family of the driver about his death. He is from the local area.

The lorry driver was taken to the nearby Truck Stop services befor being collected by his employers, McCarthy Waste Management of Bristol.

He was then taken home to Bristol.

Zoe Lane, assistant manager at Truck Stop, said: "The driver came here for a cup of tea after the accident and was then taken home. He was obviously quite shaken."
