Driver Dean Gunning has appeared at Swindon Crown Court charged with causing the death of his cousin through dangerous driving.

Gunning was behind the wheel of a Jaguar sports car when it collided with a roundabout on the A350 at Yarnbrook, near Trowbridge.

The 26-year-old is accused of causing the death of Ricky Gunning through dangerous driving on Sunday April 15.

No charge was formally put to Gunning, of Manor Rod, Trowbridge, during the brief hearing and he did not enter a plea.

The case was adjourned to Friday December 21 when he is due to enter a plea to the charge and he was released on bail.

The defendant underwent an eight hour operation to rebuild his legs following the smash shortly before 1am.

His cousin Ricky was a front seat passenger in the blue Jaguar XJ Sport which was in collision with the high solid section of the roundabout.

The car, with Dean driving, Ricky in the front passenger seat and their girlfriends in the rear, had been travelling from the Westbury direction when the accident happened in the early hours of the morning.

Ricky, 35, was born in Swindon and brought up in Wootton Bassett going to the town's county infants and comprehensive schools.

He left the town when he was 18 years old going to London but he moved back to the county living in the west Wiltshire area.

Ricky's girlfriend Carly Abbott, 25, suffered serious back injuries in the crash while Dean's girlfriend Naomi Taylor, 17, less serious injuries.
