A teenager accused of possessing and making explosive substances has been remanded in custody by a judge at Swindon crown court.
Thomas Cowley is charged with two offences under the Explosive Substances Act which are said to have taken place in June.
It is alleged that the 19-year-old from Queens Road, Wootton Bassett, had a number of chemicals including nitro-glycerine, hydrogen peroxide, sulphuric acid, nitric acid, aluminium filings and iron oxide.
He faces separate charges that on Thursday June 28 he possessed an explosive substance and making an explosive substance on the same day.
No charges were formally put to the teenager, who appeared in the dock wearing a T-shirt, and he did not enter a plea during the brief hearing.
Cowley was remanded in custody to Friday December 21 when he is due to enter pleas to the two charges.
Hundreds of neighbouring residents were evacuated after a cache of chemicals was found in a garden shed at Cowley's family home.
The teenager had been taken to hospital having inhaled fumes from an experiment he had been conducting.
The police and officers from the bomb squad investigated substances found in the garden shed causing the evacuation of houses within a 30 metre radius.
It is thought the array of chemicals had been bought through mail order internet websites.
