Students at John Bentley School in Calne raised more than £1,000 for charity after organising a massive sold out gig.

Six form pupils got ten local bands together on Thursday to raise money for global charity Oxfam.

Oxjam attracted people from all over Wiltshire with students managing to sell all 300 tickets.

As well as selling tickets for the concert entrepreneurial pupils sold t-shirts and refreshments to rake in extra cash.

The school was awarded a £250 grant by the charity to promote the concert but managed not to use it and put the cash back into the pot.

One of the organisers six former Cassie Marsden said: "It was a really great night. We had people calling up at 5pm asking if we could reserve tickets for them.

"In the beginning it was a bit stressful, trying to get everything done on time and loading the equipment on the stage but it was such a success it was worth it.

"We wanted to raise money for Oxfam because we have such great facilities here and in third world countries a lot of schools have nothing.

"Its nice to say that we have done something to help those people out."

In-school bands, The Undecided, Fatal Chance, Yellow Snow, The Nemesis Pro=ject, Cold Snap, Summit For Panda and Operation Monk Tissue proved a huge hit with audiences.

As well as in school bands students managed to book Devizes band Throwing Paper Aeroplanes and legends Mick O'Toole and the Reprobates.

In total the students raised £1,200 for Oxfam.

Oxfam launched the Oxjam campaign on October 1 and fundraisers all over the UK are holding concerts until the end of the month.
