Marlborough dog owner Della Moran has thanked police officers and local vets for rescuing her beloved retriever Daisy last Friday.

Daisy went missing as Mrs Moran was walking with a friend and five dogs in Savernake Forest, possibly in search of pheasants or deer.

Mrs Moran and her friend were joined by other walkers who helped scour the area to try to find Daisy.

For several anxious hours they searched in vain before Mrs Moran got a call from Riverside Vets in Marlborough.

She was told that Daisy had been saved thanks to the kindness and quick thinking of WPCs Melanie Porter and Chrissie Macdonald.

Mrs Moran said: "They were called to Cadley by a lady from Bulford who had phoned the police.

"Daisy had been hit by three cars and was in a bad way. The two police officers took her directly to Riverside Veterinary Centre, where she was seen straight away by vet Edward de Beukelar.

"Lynne, one of the nurses, recognised Daisy and called me on my mobile. It was getting dark and we were still searching in the forest so to hear that she had been found was fantastic news.

"Edward examined her and to everyone's amazement she had no internal bleeding or broken bones. The diagnosis was severe bruising, cuts and dehydration."

Daisy was kept in overnight for observation and on Saturday morning, Mrs Moran was able to take her home.

Mrs Moran said: "Our thanks to everybody at Marlborough police station, Riverside Veterinary Centre, the search team in the forest and the drivers who stopped at the scene.

"We are lucky to live in an area like Marlborough where people are genuinely so kind and thoughtful."
