Villagers have been left baffled after more than 50 loaves of bread and buns were dumped in a ditch.
Retired egg collector Reuben Couzens, who lives in Dracot Cerne, was cycling along the lane leading towards Sutton Benger when he spotted some trampled grass. On closer inspection he noticed dozens of loaves of bread - all a week within their sell-by date.
He contacted the council earlier this week but the bread remains in the ditch, attracting foxes, rats and hedgehogs.
Wife Geraldine Couzens said: "It's amazing what you get down in our ditch.
"You don't expect to see a load of bread. We've been wondering where it came from and thought perhaps somebody stole a bakery van and dumped the contents.
"We've had things life a three piece suite and table and chairs left here before - from people on their way to the dump.
"I hope the council comes and moves it soon. The loaves are in plastic bags so it's not very environmentally friendly and it's blocking all the rain water."
A police spokesman said they were not aware of any bread vans being reported as stolen.
