Wiltshire Police are appealing for help with the identification of a couple they would like to speak to following an allegation of theft in Marlborough.
A local woman went into Barclay's Bank in Marlborough High Street, on Friday, August the 24th, 2007, just after 1pm. She had in her hand a brown paper envelope containing a substantial amount of cash. She went to a counter at the bank which is available for use by members of the public and filled in a paying-in slip. She then completed her business in the bank.
She exited the building, mistakenly leaving behind the envelope of cash on the counter top where she had filled in her slip. Some time later the woman realised what she had done. The envelope could not be found at the bank and she reported the incident to the police.
Later examination of CCTV footage from Barclay's Bank revealed the woman at the counter in the bank and then showed her leaving. No other customers used the same desk area until 20 minutes later when the couple in the attached CCTV pictures went to the same counter space. They stopped at the desk for a couple of minutes and then exited the bank.
The couple were both white and aged from 35 to 40 years-old. The woman was about 5ft 5ins tall with shoulder length blonde to mousy hair and a slim build. She was wearing jeans and a light blue T-shirt with a white number 36 on the front. The man was about 6ft tall with strawberry blonde hair and of medium build. He was wearing jeans and a blue, green and purple T-shirt.
Wiltshire police would like to hear from the couple in the CCTV pictures, or from anyone who can identify them. Anyone who has information which could help with this investigation is asked to contact Marlborough Police Station on 0845 408 7000, or if preferred information can be left anonymously by calling the Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
