ROCK star Pete Doherty continues to make pulses race and tongues wag in Marlborough as he regularly appears in public.

Mr Doherty, 28, is staying at a house in Cross Lane in the town, but, despite his reputation for high living and raucous behaviour, he is proving to be a model neighbour.

Barbara Hunt, who lives nearby, said: "He's the perfect neighbour.

"You would hardly know he's there. I was a bit worried when I heard he was coming to stay, but, in fact, there has been no problem at all."

Mr Doherty and his group of associates are regulars at the Sun Inn in the High Street.

They were there again on Thursday night and will no doubt be enjoying the Mop Fair from the comfort of the pub's bar.

Landlord's son Justin Thacker said: "They are always polite and very friendly.

"I think Mr Doherty is getting a bit fed up with all the attention he gets when he walks in the High Street. People are always asking for his autograph and to be pictured with him.

"He just wants to be left alone to get on with his life."

Mr Bernard is chief executive of the UK's largest commercial radio group GCap - which was formed by the merger of GWR and Capital Radio in 2005.
