MORE than 150 people called in at Chippenham Museum for a day collecting memories of life and work at Westinghouse, once the biggest employer in the town.
The event was part of the exhibition What’s in Store: Behind the Scenes at Chippenham Museum, which runs till April 23. People enjoyed a chance to see objects recently added to the Westinghouse collection, to share memories and memorabilia about the company, and to learn about plans to document this important industry in Chippenham.
"We hoped people who worked at Westinghouse would share their memories, and give us items and ephemera," said museum curator Melissa Barnett. "People shared some lovely memories, and met others they used to work with. We will be doing it again."
The museum has also organised several store tours and a series of lunchtime talks focusing on a different museum object each week, and how they help understanding of the past.
